Friday
Battlestar Galactica. Well, nothing says you're totally frakking insane like holding a gun to the head of the president of the 12 colonies... So, sure, they're going to put you in the brig. And then release you with your own sneak reconnaissance algae ship? Sure, it doesn't make a ton of sense, but it's something.

Saturday
Deathnote. Ah, the glorious death of L. We all knew it was coming. We were all aware that it wouldn't last forever. Especially since they haven't introduced the creepy children from the opening credits. That's next week, I'm sure. Oh, and next week is I think about three years later...

Torchwood. This is probably one of the best episodes of Torchwood, ever. To see the origins of all the characters and their introductions to Torchwood, how they got in, why they were chosen... it was just incredible television storytelling. Just great.

Doctor Who. Both good and bad this episode. I liked the premise of it, the destruction of Pompeii, and how the Doctor is responsible for having done it (as per usual). But I wasn't keen on some of the dialogue. It just felt a little wrong to me. Though I did like it when they used Latin phrases and the people said they were speaking Celtic. That was funny. LOVED the lava monsters though. Also, I felt like I was starting to catch a theme between the two episodes, but I lost it. That's good, don't want to be beaten over the head with the theme.

Sunday
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - Vol. 3. This was not my favorite set of episodes, but I did like the murder mystery. I was actually totally shocked by it in fact. Though the ending of it wasn't written very well...

What I'm Reading/Watching Now

I've got a lot on my plate if you check my GoodReads profile (which I would like to recommend to you all). Currently I'm reading All Shall Be Well; and All Shall Be Well; and All Manner of Things Shall Be Well by Todd Wodicka. It's a novel about an old man, whose life is pretty much over, who decides to chuck it all and live a life as his medieval re-enactment persona. I'm only 36 pages into the book, but it's pretty good so far. It's a quick sort of read at that. In a sense it feels similar to the Testament of Gideon Mack, which I reviewed a few months ago.

In Manga Land I'm on Volume 4 of Cantarella. Finally the Yaoi begins to creep into the plot. I've been waiting for it to show up, and it finally has. Subtle brushes of lips upon lips in the night. Oh how it makes my heart go aflutter.

Our April Book Club selection is Gargantuan by Maggie Estep. I've never read a Maggie Estep novel, but I feel madly in love with her as a NuYoRican slam poet in the 90's. Oh GOD how I yearned to hear her speak. She's got this series of racetrack mysteries, and I'm incredibly curious, because I do love the ponies, and I love Maggie... I'm sure it's going to be a good time.

I bought three videos last night at Best Buy. Frisky Dingo Season 1, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya v. 3, Doctor Who The Time Warrior (Jon Pertwee, Elizabeth Sladen and Sontarans!).

We watched the entirety of Frisky Dingo last night and GOD was that funny. Not until the very last episode of the season do you even know why the show was called Frisky Dingo, but it's SO worth it. And the fact that the new series plays right off of the old series is even more fantastically good. I'm so glad that I bought it. It's three hours DEFINITELY worth watching.

Tonight: Heading out to the OHF Spring Ball. Tomorrow. Finishing Taxes, and watching anime/Doctor Who.

Well, I got to watch all my favorite sci-fi shows this weekend. And THEN I got to watch the Lord of the Rings marathon on TNT yesterday. 11 hours of LotR is still a good time. And during commercial breaks I was the Lord of the Laundry and the Lord of the Dishes.

Fun and Productive.

Mini-Notes:

BSG: I think I know who the Final Cylon is, and I'm not telling.
Torchwood: How creepy was that! Human trauma victims of alien attacks...
Dr Who: Adipose look like Domo-kun. No, seriously!

I didn't work on my taxes. I do more of that tonight. I think I know what I can claim, but I've got to look over my bank statements thoroughly.

Last night I noticed that my DVR was recording something. And then I was like, what's recording at 8:00 on a Saturday??

Torchwood Season 2!

I immediately flipped over to see what was happening and caught the glorious return of Miss Martha Jones. Yes, As it was announced, so it did happen. Martha is on Torchwood and she's got a job title that made me sit up and take notice.

More on Martha on Torchwood - Spoilery )

Fascinating! I can't wait to see more!

And, can I tell you how much I am LOVING that there's only a week between the airing of an episode in the UK and it's airing on BBC America!! That's the way it should be.

Now all you have to do is open up that Torchwood website to those not in the UK BBC...

*Sigh*

Just dropped a chunk of change at Borders. It happens. Here's what I got.

Videos

Doctor Who: The Beginning - Box Set
Harold and Maude
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya vol. 1

Manga

Blood+ v. 1
DeathNote v. 13 - How to Read DeathNote
Monster v. 3
MuShiShi v. 3
Ouran High School Host Club v. 1

Books

A Thousand Years of Manga

I was going to get an Evangelion Box Set, but they were out. In fact the anime section looked like it had been picked over by vultures. I'm kind of amazed I even got Haruhi. Gurren Lagann was not even on their radar. Maybe it'll be on the website or at Best Buy or something.

But I saved $30.00 on the Doctor Who box set. That's good.

The Thousand Years of Manga book looks phenomenal, but it's more of a coffee table book. I can't wait to read it.

Oh, and I ordered "All Nippon Air Lines" from Lambda. I can't wait to read ANAL!

Now for curry, clean up and Haruhi.

It's the citadel of the TimeLords from episode 312 of the new Doctor Who series.

I've got fronts, backs and trims all cut out. I need to do sleeves and sashes (read obi for guys).

I cut out all seven at once. Let me tell you how much of a bitch it was to place all that yardage so that it overlapped properly. Ugh.

Thankfully they're costume kimonos so rough edges and minor unevenness is forgiveable.

Still though, they're going to be pretty damn cool. Well, they'll look cheap, but decent. They're kinda see through so it'll be kind of cheap and sexy... Sometimes a very good combo.

I have storytime in the morning. We're doing Fables. No, not the extra hot Vertigo Fables, but the Aesop kind.

Tomorrow is Project Runway 4-4. I'm excited.

OH! And I bought holiday cards. If you'd like one just drop me an email.

OH2! I bought Doctor Who Season 3 on DVD tonight. I got it with a coupon from Border's Rewards for only $59.00

Night kids.

I've done little more than sleep today. Stayed up totally late to watch the latest episode of Doctor Who. It was the conclusion of the Paul Cornell story Human Nature. I was blown away by it because bears a striking resemblance to the Last Temptation of Christ. And what an interesting statement that is...

Anyhow I called into the Podshock today and it was fun. It's much better to listen to it over the phone than through my crappy cheap headphones.

And then I went back to sleep. I woke up around 7:00 and ordered a sandwich and watched Pirates of the Caribbean part 2, since I'd never seen it and everyone I know seems to be going to see part 3.

Spent the last two hours going over my Japanese with Rosetta Stone. I've been trying to configure my headset/microphone for the speaking portion, but there's just too much peripheral noise or something for it to register my voice properly. My speech pattern just looks like a vaguely close blur that's overly thick. Oh well, I try.

Tomorrow begins my crazy ass schedule for June. Hopefully I will survive it all without going completely mad.

Yesterday was youth pride. Yesterday evening we put the new ribbons on the maypole and watched the movie "Claire" starring Sister Missionary Position Delight. Both things were awesome.

Today we danced in Dupont Circle. There were 30 people on the pole, and it wove up beautifully. We've even got pictures, but I'll have to post them later.

Tonight [info]sqrlcub took me, Kurt and JD out to the Melting Pot for a birthday dinner. It was excellent as always.

And now I've caught up with email and comics. I've not even looked at my friends page yet so if there's something I'm missing out on I'll just have to find out another time.

Tomorrow I go back to working at Tenley. And I have to say, that I'm thrilled that I won't be in the cage.

I also got some fantastic artwork and a new tee shirt and some excellent shoes. Not in that order. Urban Outfitters is good for something.

Watched the episode "Evolution of the Daleks" yesterday. It wasn't as holy fucking fuck as the first episode, but it was pretty hellacious. I can't wait to see next week's episode. It looks like a creature straight out of The Great and Secret Show, and that makes me all giddy.

I woke up to the dream of sex with a person I hadn't thought about in a long long time. It was all the things we never did, and all the things I wish we could have done together, but mostly it was the feeling of being together again that I liked and that I wanted to cling to. I like having those old feelings, and waking up to them and wrapping up in them like a warm blanket. It was a good, comfortable feeling, familiar, and inviting. It's times like that that I miss having him in my life. He was a good friend.

I began work in the cage today. It is definitely physically laborious to do this job. It is shelving, boxing and loading pallets of books for two small branch libraries. This is not an easy task. I was on my feet all day in a hot hot basement cage, taking regular breaks for water and food. Thankfully my sickness has completely passed. I think it was just something I ate.

Went to Faeries tonight and had a WONDERFUL night. I took it easy and just had conversations with folks and they sang the birthday song to me. They told me to make a wish and I made none. I just cleared my mind and blew out the candle. It was kind of a Zen wish, if it was a wish at all. They asked me what the best things of last year were: JD, The Store, and the New Job. They asked me what my hope for the upcoming year was: My hope was for more banana pudding.

I walked home with Niko and we had an amazing conversation that lasted WAY too long, but touched on all the fantastic things that Faerie conversations go through: Religion, Magic, Ritual, Life, Personal Experience, Weirdness, etc. etc. It was beautiful and worth it. Then I walked all the way home in the cool night breeze.

I called JD and we talked for a long time. We're starting to get ideas more solidified about the wedding, and since it's over a year away that's a good thing.

Then I watched Heroes. WOW.
And yesterday I watched Doctor Who: Daleks in Manhattan. Holy Fucking FUCK!

Thus ends my super incredibly long day.

It's very quiet right now, and I'm happy for that. I've had a good weekend, excluding the tax drama, and I've gotten through my first month at the public library.

Right now I'm feeling that floating sensation of calmness and zen that I feel when all is good, I am tired and things have been completed.

That makes me happy.

I haven't written about it, but I've watched the first two episodes of the third series of the new Doctor Who, as well as some classic Tom Baker eps that I've got to write up too. I'll get around to it soon I'm sure.

We blessed the few pages of the RFD that we've created at Faeries tonight. We're hoping we get more and more and more soon. I've still got to create my own. I've got some good ideas, but I need more data to execute them to any real extent.

I've read nearly all of my last round of comics. I'm all caught up on Phonogram and X-Factor, I'm nearly done with Eternals, and then I'll get to the Great and Secret Show, the Gunslinger, the Boys and my trades.

By the way: Does someone have ALL of my volumes of Fables, or am I just going crazy and not seeing it?

I'm also half-way through Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. I'm hoping that I'll finish it soon, because I've got to get to the 8 hour audio book of Zora Neale Hurston's "Their Eyes Were Watching God," because it's part of the DC Big Read program and I don't want to be too behind the curve about it. Of course, 8 hours is just a day. Perhaps a Sunday or a day off?

Speaking of days off, I'm off on Friday the 13th, working Saturday and Sunday and off on Monday the 16th for a DC holiday, Emancipation Day. And then next weekend, my birthday weekend of all things is Ecumenicon. Teddy and I will be selling there, so if you're coming to the conference then please do stop by our booth.

And that concludes my blisscast.

Good evening all.

I finally finished Marvel Civil War. The only thing I could think of was a T.S. Eliot rip-off

This is the way Civil War ends
This is the way Civil War ends
This is the way Civil War ends
Not with a bang...
But a whimper

Lame beyond Lame.

On the other hand, if you want to see the craziest fucking thing I've ever seen in a comic book ever, you should read Nextwave issue #11. I won't say what it was that blew my mind and made me laugh in hysterics, but it would so be worth buying that issue 6 times just to frame the whole thing. Oh, and the fact that one of the characters is holding a sign that says "Mark Millar Licks Goats" is even more reason to buy extra copies.

I checked out some urban fiction today. I got "In search of pretty young black men" which is a hustler story, as is implied, and "Afterburn" by Zane. I haven't cracked the first page of either of them, but reading the flap had me at least somewhat interested. I hear that Zane is one of the most popular authors of this genre, so we'll see. Though I did not pick up "Payback is a mutha" I was really tempted. I may get it later.

I'm currently trying to finish reading Philip K. Dick's "The Penultimate Truth," which is just loaded with all kinds of fucked up intrige and lies and the people who see through lies professionally because they craft them for the world in which they live and the people they suppress. It's a hell of a story. Honestly, better than Vulcan's Hammer and Minority Report. Probably the best Phil Dick novel I've read, at least so far. He always dials it up about 2/3rds in and I feel like I'm getting there, so I'm reading it practically non-stop.

And now for shows. New Doctor Who next week on BBC!!!! AAAAHHHH!!!! Only 7 days away!!!!! I'm just busting with anticipation.

I Finally got caught up with Rome. It feels like they've got their old writing back. I mean the clever plots and the verbal twists were just brilliant. Thank Dis Pullo killed who he did. That character deserved a worse death than that, but it wasn't half bad. Can't wait for the finale.

Battlestar has been dragging, but I think it's been intentional as a means of building up to the big reveal of the final 5 Cylons. Hearing a person's voice say "my god, we're all Cylons" was just haunting. But we knew this moment is coming. I wonder if Bodog has odds on who the final 5 are? I have my suspicions, and [info]rwx has a theory that I think will be proven in the next episode.

And I don't care if the Dresden Files are predictable or derivative, I still like it. I like that since I have more than a passing fancy in the occult there are little things that I pick up on. Sure it's all very "Charmed" meets Sam Spade, but I still dig it.

Over the last few weeks I've watched the Doctor Who classic episodes "Black Orchid," "Earthshock," "Terror of the Zygons," and "Planet of Evil." Brief reviews.

Black Orchid: The fifth doctor travels back to the late Victorian era and finds out that an explorer was mutilated in the jungles of South America for stealing a sacred flower, and that his family tried to cover up his crippling injuries by locking him in a bell tower... I mean a secret priest hole. It was very "hunchback of Notre Dame" but in all the wrong ways. Terrible. Absolute rubbish. 1 Tardis Grind for you.

Earthshock: Through a clever and sad series of events the Cybermen are responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs and Adric at the same time. So sad. Very well done though, and heartwrenching to the point of actually crying while looking at his mutilated math badge in silence for a whole minute. For raw emotion and the redemption of Adric: 5 Tardis Grinds.

Terror of the Zygons: It's the attack of the Loch Ness Monster! He just wants to get a little nookie from the device attached to your hand. But really it's more about the Zygons who want to turn Earth into a watery grave/spawning ground for their kind. Clever suckers! For some Harryhausen-esque-apades: 4 Tarids Grinds!

Planet of Evil: Is it man or Anti-Man? A scientist on a remote planet finds a new fuel to save his dying star, but really it's anti-matter from the parallel universe and it starts to eat away at his body and soul. For eyes slightly less scary than Rosemary's Baby and for the original scene of the Doctor jumping down a pit to uncertain doom: 3 Tardis Grinds.
