On the other hand, if you want to see the craziest fucking thing I've ever seen in a comic book ever, you should read Nextwave issue #11. I won't say what it was that blew my mind and made me laugh in hysterics, but it would so be worth buying that issue 6 times just to frame the whole thing. Oh, and the fact that one of the characters is holding a sign that says "Mark Millar Licks Goats" is even more reason to buy extra copies.
I checked out some urban fiction today. I got "In search of pretty young black men" which is a hustler story, as is implied, and "Afterburn" by Zane. I haven't cracked the first page of either of them, but reading the flap had me at least somewhat interested. I hear that Zane is one of the most popular authors of this genre, so we'll see. Though I did not pick up "Payback is a mutha" I was really tempted. I may get it later.
I'm currently trying to finish reading Philip K. Dick's "The Penultimate Truth," which is just loaded with all kinds of fucked up intrige and lies and the people who see through lies professionally because they craft them for the world in which they live and the people they suppress. It's a hell of a story. Honestly, better than Vulcan's Hammer and Minority Report. Probably the best Phil Dick novel I've read, at least so far. He always dials it up about 2/3rds in and I feel like I'm getting there, so I'm reading it practically non-stop.
And now for shows. New Doctor Who next week on BBC!!!! AAAAHHHH!!!! Only 7 days away!!!!! I'm just busting with anticipation.
I Finally got caught up with Rome. It feels like they've got their old writing back. I mean the clever plots and the verbal twists were just brilliant. Thank Dis Pullo killed who he did. That character deserved a worse death than that, but it wasn't half bad. Can't wait for the finale.
Battlestar has been dragging, but I think it's been intentional as a means of building up to the big reveal of the final 5 Cylons. Hearing a person's voice say "my god, we're all Cylons" was just haunting. But we knew this moment is coming. I wonder if Bodog has odds on who the final 5 are? I have my suspicions, and

rwx has a theory that I think will be proven in the next episode. And I don't care if the Dresden Files are predictable or derivative, I still like it. I like that since I have more than a passing fancy in the occult there are little things that I pick up on. Sure it's all very "Charmed" meets Sam Spade, but I still dig it.
Over the last few weeks I've watched the Doctor Who classic episodes "Black Orchid," "Earthshock," "Terror of the Zygons," and "Planet of Evil." Brief reviews.
Black Orchid: The fifth doctor travels back to the late Victorian era and finds out that an explorer was mutilated in the jungles of South America for stealing a sacred flower, and that his family tried to cover up his crippling injuries by locking him in a bell tower... I mean a secret priest hole. It was very "hunchback of Notre Dame" but in all the wrong ways. Terrible. Absolute rubbish. 1 Tardis Grind for you.
Earthshock: Through a clever and sad series of events the Cybermen are responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs and Adric at the same time. So sad. Very well done though, and heartwrenching to the point of actually crying while looking at his mutilated math badge in silence for a whole minute. For raw emotion and the redemption of Adric: 5 Tardis Grinds.
Terror of the Zygons: It's the attack of the Loch Ness Monster! He just wants to get a little nookie from the device attached to your hand. But really it's more about the Zygons who want to turn Earth into a watery grave/spawning ground for their kind. Clever suckers! For some Harryhausen-esque-apades: 4 Tarids Grinds!
Planet of Evil: Is it man or Anti-Man? A scientist on a remote planet finds a new fuel to save his dying star, but really it's anti-matter from the parallel universe and it starts to eat away at his body and soul. For eyes slightly less scary than Rosemary's Baby and for the original scene of the Doctor jumping down a pit to uncertain doom: 3 Tardis Grinds.
Today I met up with
sqrlcub and Dan of danbryan1 and had a (formerly) typical lunch at Union Station. Working in Tenley is going to totally spoil me with the Armand's Chicago Pizza buffet across the street and the Neisha thai restaurant merely blocks away and Blimpie right next to us and the Ruby Tuesday two doors down. It's like hella convenient for everything except the getting there. Though I found out that there's a crosstown bus up on Columbia that goes there so I'll go and check that out tomorrow morning. Last night I stayed up way too late watching some of my downloaded Doctor Who. I watched Black Orchid (bad) and Earthshock (awesome). I'll do a complete writeup of them very soon. Also I finished my Doctor Who novel "World Game." It had strengths and weaknesses, but compared to "Fear Itself" I'd take the latter. I'll have a writeup of that soon too.
Earlier in the week I got caught up with Heroes and Battlestar Galactica. To those who didn't spoil BSG thank you for piquing my curiosity and not giving away the farm. That episode convinced me that the writers actually know what they're doing. And honestly I think season 4 is going to be a perfect storm of OMGWTF as a result of what they're setting up now. Heroes once again wowed my socks off. But I'm kind of upset that they're saving the finale until the day after my birthday. I mean, why wait so long?! Probably some post-production holdup somewhere and some kind of sci-fi channel arrangement that's slowing things down. I can't wait for this show to come out on DVD, because I'm SO buying it.
And Doctor Who begins back again on Mar. 31st in the UK. If only I could fly over there in my invisible jet and catch the premiere! It looks like it's going to be a barnburner. Literally, I mean the promo photo that they've got with The Doctor and Martha is them running out of a ball of flame. Course that could just be a fancy production photo that has nothing to do with the first episode, but still it's awesome. And it's my new desktop picture. :D
JD comes back up tonight, only to return to Virginia in the morning after dropping me off at work, and then returning again super late in the evening. After that we get to spend the remainder of the week together. YAY!
Well, I've got some forms to fill out, but other than that I'm free for the rest of the evening.

JD is back in town and I'm super happy. :D We had a good day yesterday of waking up late, going for coffee, meeting up with
sqrlcub and going out to Mr. Henry's (the gay pub on Cap Hill). Then we went back to my house and played Quiddler and talked about stuff, and then we went to the DC Radical Faeries Yule Music & Dance meeting (it's going to be SPECTACULAR!). Then we met up with Kurt and went out to dinner at the kabob house in Clarendon, and came back and watched Dr. Who and Battlestar Galactica from the DVR. Then our guests left and JD and I settled in for a good three hour conversation on the basics of eclectic Wiccan/generic neo-Pagan ritual theory. It was long, necessary and informative for both of us. We're probably going to practice some of that today and see if he resonates with any of it. I got my Tarot Decks the other night. They were missing 2 decks and the display example sets were not included either. Perhaps when I get the remainder of the order those will be in there.

queerpagan seems to be doing pretty well. It's mostly been intro posts, and I've noticed a lot of people from glbt_pagan who switched to our community or added ours as well. I have high hopes for this.mrguillo thought I could pull it off by Halloween. Well, I was able to pull together the details, but the actual construction and purchasing of materials is just not going to happen right now. No cashola. mrguillo asked me about making a viper pilot flight suit, and I've got some ideas. ( a picture and some comments )
The entirety of the main body is done, lining sewn in (though I had to rip it out and do some of it again due to stuff getting caught in the machine that shouldn't have.
But now that it's done it looks totally fucking amazing. The cut and the design is perfect. I think the only area where I might have some issues, and it's a small area is that the loops for the buttons are a little wide and I might have to take them in a little. Then again, I could be totally wrong and they're just fine, but to me they look kind of wide. We'll see once I put the buttons on.
The most interesting thing about this piece, apart from the fact that it's totally fucking awesome looking, is the sleeves. The sleeves are completely detachable because they're simply laced on with sections of ribbon. I was creating these little grommet pieces for the sleeve (and GOD were they difficult!) and it's going to look really good.
Tonight I make the sleeves and attach them and I'll be posting pictures later this evening. I'm afraid I won't be able to make the nickers. :( I may take tomorrow off to make them. If not I'll try and plow through them tonight.
Also, I had an interfacing breakthrough. I realized exactly what I was doing wrong. I simply needed to leave the iron directly on the interfacing until the shit was fused and not bother with flipping it or anything like that. I don't know why the hell I didn't think of it before. Also, I put a towel down underneath the fabric and the pile stayed just fine. :)
I found the balloon pants for JD's outfit last night. They could stand to be washed. For that matter I could stand to wash a few things anyway.
In other costuming news I got a note from
mrguillo about making a Battlestar Galactica Viper pilot flight suit. I've been thinking about it since he gave me that note, and the image and I think it's easier than I originally estimated. But we'll see. The fabric alone is going to be a pain, because there's so much of it and it's all that shiny thin vinyl looking stuff. I don't even know where to begin finding that, not to mention all the tool oriented stuff on the uniform like the little green lightup box on the cuff or the insignia badges and things. It'll be like working with plastic, if not actually working with plastic. But I love a challenge!
Please set my DVR to record Battlestar Galactica for me tonight! I'll be chanting and might miss it.

sabre79 and goldenboy* who are looking to move here. We had a great conversation about where to and not to live in DC, and about several other things. After dinner we originally headed out to go look at neighborhoods, but wound up going back to my place and watching "Return of the Living Dead III," which, if you don't remember has zombies in 50 gallon drums and the military uses the gas they secrete to create more zombies as a bioweapon, AND a boy and his girlfriend find this out, the girlfriend dies and the boy brings her back to life and she, of course, craves the brains of the living. Decent movie, but my DVD player needs a serious cleaning, because it was skipping like crazy and we had to turn it off about an hour into the movie. Unfortunate. Anyhow, I gave them the hookup with a bunch of people's contact information for leads on places to live and such.
sqrlcub: I gave them your yahoo info, because Sabre is interested in teaching music lessons for kids out here and isn't sure of the market. Thought you could steer him in the right direction.After they headed back out to *shudder* Manassas, I watched Alien vs. Predator and worked a bit more on THE HORROR!

So I wrote the good folks over at The Experience Music Project about seeing if they would save the toilets from CBGB as a special usable Rock and Roll bathroom in the EMP.
