Someone made this awesome little cartoon, and let me tell you, I would totally watch this show!

Thanks to
bruhinb for pointing it out.

Battlestar Galactica. Well, nothing says you're totally frakking insane like holding a gun to the head of the president of the 12 colonies... So, sure, they're going to put you in the brig. And then release you with your own sneak reconnaissance algae ship? Sure, it doesn't make a ton of sense, but it's something.
Saturday
Deathnote. Ah, the glorious death of L. We all knew it was coming. We were all aware that it wouldn't last forever. Especially since they haven't introduced the creepy children from the opening credits. That's next week, I'm sure. Oh, and next week is I think about three years later...
Torchwood. This is probably one of the best episodes of Torchwood, ever. To see the origins of all the characters and their introductions to Torchwood, how they got in, why they were chosen... it was just incredible television storytelling. Just great.
Doctor Who. Both good and bad this episode. I liked the premise of it, the destruction of Pompeii, and how the Doctor is responsible for having done it (as per usual). But I wasn't keen on some of the dialogue. It just felt a little wrong to me. Though I did like it when they used Latin phrases and the people said they were speaking Celtic. That was funny. LOVED the lava monsters though. Also, I felt like I was starting to catch a theme between the two episodes, but I lost it. That's good, don't want to be beaten over the head with the theme.
Sunday
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - Vol. 3. This was not my favorite set of episodes, but I did like the murder mystery. I was actually totally shocked by it in fact. Though the ending of it wasn't written very well...

Last night I noticed that my DVR was recording something. And then I was like, what's recording at 8:00 on a Saturday??
Torchwood Season 2!
I immediately flipped over to see what was happening and caught the glorious return of Miss Martha Jones. Yes, As it was announced, so it did happen. Martha is on Torchwood and she's got a job title that made me sit up and take notice.
( More on Martha on Torchwood - Spoilery )
Fascinating! I can't wait to see more!
And, can I tell you how much I am LOVING that there's only a week between the airing of an episode in the UK and it's airing on BBC America!! That's the way it should be.
Now all you have to do is open up that Torchwood website to those not in the UK BBC...

Yesterday was the DC Radical Faerie Feast of the Red Dragon. Holy crap it was awesome. We raised well over $2,000, final count is still trickling in. This is going to be fantastic for us in developing this HIV Prevention Campaign.
After Red Dragon JD and I went home and promptly collapsed from lack of sleep. We then slept until about 11:00 p.m. and ordered pizza and other sundry foods which arrived at midnight so we could enjoy them with an evening of Deathnote. Stayed up to about 3:00 watching Torchwood season 2 on BBC America and then called it a night.
Why I am awake at 9:30 in the morning is kind of a mystery to me.

Yesterday I was out sick from work, and I slept most of the day. Unfortunately this resulted in me not getting to sleep until about 4:00 a.m. this morning. I was rolling and rolling and tossing and turning and my brain would not stop thinking
about getting married.
See, I was watching Ace of Cakes the other day and I knew that we had to order a cake from them for our wedding. Cause basically they can make anything and we are going to be having a highly unorthodox wedding anyhow.
Then I started thinking about where to have it. And people. And potties. And costumes. And Rings. And who would do the service. And food. And honeymoon. And money.
My brain would not shut off. Not at all. I felt like I was going crazy with details and we haven't even picked a date yet.
I chalk it up to fever and good ideas.
Incidentally I'm slightly feeling better today, still ill, but coping mightily, and no fever dreams of wedding days. Though I'm thinking I need to start a list soon of all the things we need and the costs associated and starting a general fund for the wedding... Why I've put this off til now is beyond me.
The cake alone is going to cost a fortune.

I just watched the Doctor Who Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned.

Hooray for cuddling with friends and watching shitty programming on VH1!
Hooray for going to chinese and a movie on Christmas! It makes me feel so urban.
FYI: Sweeney Todd was AWESOME! I laughed, I was horrified, I was saddened and I was like WHAT! It was great. Part of the fun of not being a musical theater queen is that I'm constantly shocked by shows that have been around forever. My favorite was the pie song where they're looking at people out the window and talking about their flavor. It was glorious. Visually stunning and well sung. Though Johnny Depp does sing over Helena Bonham Carter a bit much. Beautifully gory. Loved it.
I came home round 5:00ish and watched "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." I've always loved this movie. It was one of those shows that we would watch whenever it came on. Ironically I always wanted to play Melvin P. Thorpe, the TV bastard because I loved his song "Texas has a whorehouse in it!" I would never be that much of a prude, but it's hysterically funny at how over the top it is. Plus, his outfits are absolutely ridiculous.

* Work: Worked today, and will work again tomorrow and monday. Sometimes I'm too responsible for my own damn good.
* Japanese: I'm up to Rosetta Stone level 1 Lesson 2.5. Today I learned Big, Small, Long, Short, Shapes, Colors, Sequences, Yes and No, and the difference between animals and people. I find it unusual that the Kanji for "circle" is so non-circular. The phrase that cracked me up the most was "Chiisana tento" which means "little tent." I was saying it over and over in the shower like a crazy person.
In continuing with Japanese I nearly answered the phone Moshi Moshi tonight for fun. It was Greenpeace asking for more money and I gave it to them. I should have pretended to be Japanese, answering them only in bizarro Japanese. It could have been fun.
* Body: I shaved my head tonight, and I nicked the HELL out of my scalp. I've got a band aid on my head and I feel kind of stupid. Thank goodness I'm not going anywhere tonight. Also, my hands are UNBEARABLY dry. I have some Curel ultra healing lotion and I'm hoping that helps. It seems to be doing good so far.
* Home:
jcruisedirector moved out yesterday. The room is empty and my home is amazingly quiet. Though empty boxes still remain to be broken down. It's nice to have the place to myself again, if only for a while.
* Movies: I saw Juno the other night. It made me feel loved. I need more moments like that in movies. We all need more moments like that in movies.
* TV: Television is slowly grinding to a halt because of the damn writer's strike. I'm kind of sick of it. I just want to be entertained when I come home at night and not have to be bored by the dregs of television because of a labor dispute. All the reality TV in the world is nothing compared to shows like Journeyman, Chuck and Heroes. Thank god I have the world of anime to comfort me in my time of need.
* Books: I finished reading "The Beautiful Things that Heaven Bears." It's a wonderful book about an Ethiopian immigrant in Washington DC, watching the early stage of the gentrification of Logan Circle, and just dealing with his life. It was a great book. Wonderful even. Next for the book club is Edward P. Jones's "All Aunt Hagar's Children." It's a collection of short stories, also all based in DC. Can't wait. I'm also reading "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People." It's a very eye opening book. I'm glad I got it.
* Comics: I read Monster v.2, Hellsing v.1, Parasyte v.2, the beginning of Lone Wolf and Cub, and I'm muddling through Mushishi 3 in Japanese (not doing too well). I'm getting a box shipped from my favorite comic shop in Cincinnati sometime next week. I'm REALLY looking forward to that since it's a fucking fortune in comics.
* Internet: There's been some talk on Fabulon about wanting to have some kind of DC meetup, since there's a whole bunch of us from DC. I'm thinking it should happen so I put a note out there for a Fabulon Expedition/Exhibition in DC sometime in January. Details will be forthcoming.
* DC: Titan bar is closing their doors tomorrow and I'm very sad about this. Titan was like the one bar I would go to here in town and for reasons unknown they gave notice to everyone on Wednesday and it's been all over the blogs. I hope the owners and the staff all find new directions that benefit them. It's even sadder that it's one more gay club in DC that's gone.
* Quilt: I haven't worked on the quilt, yet, but I've got to clear up my dining room so I can work at the big table. I'm planning on next weekend being a good quilting weekend.
* Book: Haven't opened up Mordred since Nanowrimo. I will work on it again. Slow and steady it will come round. I've got the outline down and ready. I just need to write. I will set aside time next week to work on this.
* Faeries: I haven't been to faeries all month. I plan on going on Monday. Hopefully there will be someone there and we can sing carols or something.
* New Years: JD and I plan on going to his friends's New Years party. It was a lovely occasion last time. I'm hoping it's just as good this time round. Probably will be. And no more splurging on fantastic dinners before hand because the food was out of control at that party. We'll bring a couple bottles of booze to add to the cause and hopefully that'll keep people going.

I've taken to watching the Japanese news at night when I get home for a couple of reasons. 1) It's in Japanese, and I'm hoping that it'll start to sink in better with my Rosetta Stone lessons, 2) It's not the horrifying detailed insanity of American news, the politeness of the news is wonderful, 3) It's usually followed by interesting shows on Japanese culture.
After last night's NHK news there was a little travel program with a hungarian woman who went to the town of Sakaiminato. The first reason for going to this town was because it is the home of Mizuki Shigeru a manga writer who is best known for his series GeGeGe no Kitaro. Kitaro is about a youkai boy who helps keep the peace between humans and youkai. The first thing that was the most fascinating about this program was the fact that the town had erected 100 bronze statues of the youkai from the manga all through the streets. It was the coolest thing I have ever seen to have a street filled with monsters.
The second cool thing in the show was the factory where people weave these traditional garments called hama-gasuri. The designs are painstakingly created by tying off small sections of the threads and then dyeing the thread and weaving the design into the fabric based on the meticulous arrangement of the pre-designed empty spots. Man, it was AMAZING. We're talking about some serious weaving and dyeing skills.
It was a really cool show. I'm glad I watched it. It makes me want to read Kitaro.

I've been watching a hell of a lot of Adult Swim lately. I stayed up a bit later than usual last night because they were continually running this little blurb for "The Snuggler" showing this bear running across the screen saying "Hey, I'm the Snuggler." I wasn't sure what this was all about so I figured I'd stay up and watch it. Apparently the snuggler finds people who are sick or injured and then he snuggles them back to health. All the while wearing some extremely short jean shorts and a yellow polo. It was kinda weird, and kinda hot all at the same time.
Click here to watch the Tim and Eric Awesome Show (Great Job) episode with "The Snuggler"
The Snuggler was played by Zach Galifianakis.
Other stuff I've been watching:
Boondocks
Blood+
InuYasha (I know, the dub is horrible)
Deathnote
Futurama
Family Guy
And speaking of Family Guy, last nights family guy with the dirty old man organist playing "I know what boys like" was cracking me up.

2. Work toward finishing the back of the Cosmic Quilt
4. Finish reading my book club book
I would have started working on the quilt today, but I forgot that I had to work at the branch. So I'm here until 5:00 and then I head home to finish the final load of laundry and work on the quilt.
I listened to the audio book edition of "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson, and it was GOOD. I mean, REALLY GOOD. Man, I have not heard drama like that in a long time and I was seriously scared, and the ending... WOW. Definitely a must read. The audiobook edition that I was listening to yesterday includes several other stories, but I'm not sure which ones they are. I'll find out when I get home.
And season finale of Dexter tonight! Damn has that been good this year.
Since I've got some time I'll expound upon Project Runway in a little bit. I've been long overdue.
DCist informed me that Home and Garden Television is giving a neighborhood makeover to some lucky city. One of the contestants is Anacostia, which is a very old (and kinda sketchy) neighborhood in DC. It's unclear what the revitalization plan entails, but honestly, any outside help would be a great asset to the neighborhood.

Thanks!

Tomorrow night I begin the task of cutting and sewing 7 kimonos in 4 evenings.
I know it can be done.
It must be done.
In fact I am hoping that I'll be able to cut them all out tomorrow, sew them on Wednesday, and do designs and dye jobs on Thursday.
Ambitious, crazy. Oh yes.
Happening.
Oh HELL YES!
But tonight has been for television. Heroes rocked, Chuck rocked. Boondocks, awesome.
And now I crash.

* Work vs Faeries: I now work monday nights, and thus am taking a few months off from faerie potluck. This sucks but can't be helped. Honestly, I think it will help me get over the burnout I've been experiencing with faeries. It's just hard to be on for so long.
* Money: Money seems to be working itself out slowly but surely. Hopefully I'll be able to get fully caught up on everything and get my finances back in order.
* Home:
jcruisedirector has moved back in temporarily. We've worked out an agreement that is mutually beneficial, and hopefully can move beyond the drama of previous issues. The only major thing is that there are like five-million boxes all over the house now. But we're working on that.
* Art:
dmlaenker and I have successfully purchased all the required frames to finish out our home art gallery project. It's turned into something absolutely fantastic. Though there are still obvious empty spaces on the walls that need to be filled. We'll get there.
* Kimonos: I blew a big amount of cash on 50 yards of plain white broadcloth to make these costume kimonos for yule. Now I just need to fucking cut and sew out 7 kimonos and dye and draw everything.
* TV: I've been watching Project Runway again. It deserves some full length post treatment. Seriously. I'm loving some of the people this season, especially the crazy one who is not only crazy, but also seriously talented. OH! And Dante's Cove is back. All I have to say is you mixed my Jungian psychology with my witchcraft! You mixed my witchcraft with Jungian psychology! House of Shadows indeed.
* Nanowrimo: I fail again at Nanowrimo, but I shall not be defeated. I still feel like I had a great book going when I stopped for my Seattle vacation and I just haven't had a minute to catch up. I'm going to try and hit that 50,000 word mark by the end of the year and get that shit done.
* Quilt: In keeping with the spirit of getting shit done, I'm going to get that fucking quilt on the hoop this winter and finish off the cosmic quilt. It's been 4 years in the making. It's going to be worth every procrastinated minute of it.
* Games:
dmlaenker brought me the gift of another little bookcase. We decided to put it under the buffet area in the dining room and it fits PERFECTLY. I decided to load it up with all the house games, and it looks great and will be perfectly accessible when we get to having regular game nights again.

In a move that I have never seen in the world of television, Tim Kring, the man behind Heroes called up Entertainment Weekly and apologized for Heroes not being the awesome it used to be.
The EW article targets EVERY ONE of the problems that the fans of Heroes has been pointing out and Kring says that they plan on fixing it, and pretty much right now.
So,
sqrlcub, stick it out.

So,
So, I didn't get much done on the book yesterday. Just one snippet of 400 something words. But it was a good piece. Geoffrey of Monmouth.
I'm going to see what I can bust out during my lunch break in the staff room. I've got some leftover orange chicken and a flash drive.
Nothing can stop me!
MWAHAHAHA!
Okay, well maybe work can actually stop me, but hey, I'm gonna try.
I did however, do all the dishes, clean the stove, work for 4.5 hours at the library and hung out with Ellis and Kurt watching movies and some Buffy. Yeah, I busted out the Buffy Season 7 box and watched the finale again. It had been a while since watching, but with some of my LJ friends posting about Buffy weekly it just started to come back.
Cable's still out til tomorrow, but my DVR is still recording for me. I guess Comcast still actually cares, even though they like to spank me for being naughty. Comcast, you are my mistress.
